VOTER CARD



Introduction

The Election Commission of India has made voter identification mandatory at the time of poll. The electors have to identify themselves with either Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Commission. However, since cards have not been issued to all citizens, a citizen may carry another proof of identity if his/her name is on the electoral list.

Eligibility

    • An Indian citizen
    • At least 18 years old as of 1st Jan of the year for which electoral roll is prepared
    • Resident of your current address for a minimum of six months

Instructions

Voters can just simply visit their nearest polling center or CSC center and verify about their application.

Procedure

Apply for Electors Photo Identity Card
  1. Go to your polling centers or CSC and check your names in the electoral rol
  2. Fill out the ‘Form 6’. Form 6 is used for filing new voter card altogether.
  3. You can check the status of the updated voter list by sending an test message. Just type in EPICID <10 digit voter ID number>, send to 9869889966.

Required Documents

Documents needed for approval must be hard copies that must be submitted at your voters’ facilitation centre
  • Copy of address and identity proof
  • A Passport size colour Photo
  • Completed Form 6
  • AGE PROOF- BIRTH CERTIFICATE/10TH MARKSHEET.
  • IDENTITY PROOF- PAN CARD/AADHAR/PASSPORT/LICENCE/GOVT.ID (with photo mentioned on it).
  • ADDRESS PROOF- AADHAR/PASSPORT/LIGHT BILL/WATER BILL/GAS BILL/RATION CARD/LICENCE (you can use a proof with your fathers name and address mentioned.)

For  APPLICATION YOU NEED:
  • AGE PROOF- BIRTH CERTIFICATE/10TH MARKSHEET.
  • IDENTITY and ADDRESS PROOF- AADHAR/PASSPORT/LICENCE/GOVT.ID (with photo and address mentioned on it)
  • PHOTOGRAPH

Notes

  • Mere posession of an EPIC does not entitle a person to vote. His/Her name should be registered in the electoral rolls
  • Persons who are of unsound mind and have been declared so by a competent court or disqualified due to ‘Corrupt Practices’ or offences relating to elections are not entitled to be registered in the electoral rolls.
